Mission Focus

Pauline Brown brings a Mission focus to our Prayer Vigil tonight (Friday 31st March), and encourages us to lift our eyes to wider horizons.  Has God given you a heart for the nations?  Come and pray for the BIGGER picture.

‘Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…’  Matthew 28:19

Ready for Easter?

Not long now.  All the shops are crammed with Easter Eggs.  For many children the Easter holidays have started and soon we can enjoy a long bank holiday weekend with a spot of gardening, shopping, or whatever takes your fancy.  And of course a handy helping of chocolate.  Mind you, all that’s a long way from the first Easter, with the tortured death of an innocent man, who said He came to save us.  And most amazingly of all, a few days later He proved it, by His shock defeat of the last enemy, death, bringing new life to anyone who puts their faith in Him.

Here at ABC we want to welcome you to come and celebrate Easter with us.  On Palm Sunday from 10.30am we have a CAFE church on the theme of FEELINGS, focusing in part on the emotional rollercoaster that is the Easter story.  On Good Friday we have a service of Readings and reflection from the gospels at 9am, followed by an opportunity to join the walk of witness in town, culminating in a time of joint worship outdoors in Jubilee Square at 11am.  On Easter Saturday, you can get involved in helping with the Waypoint Easter Egg Hunt in town, support the Gallagher Stadium event supporting the homeless (including an evening concert, and an opportunity to do a sponsored sleepout overnight).  At ABC we are showing a film about the resurrection on Saturday evening.  On Sunday morning we share in our usual Easter Breakfast from 9am, followed by a rousing service of Celebration from 10.30am. So do come and celebrate the Risen Lord with us. ‘It is true!  The Lord has risen….!’ Luke 24:34

Have a good Easter!

We’re part of Waypoint!

We’re happy to support the Waypoint Project, 22 churches working together to help local people find the way (Jesus) for themselves.  Waypoint was launched recently with an evening where the Archbishop of Canterbury prayed a blessing on the town, we were reminded of our colourful Christian history, and the Cinamon report was circulated, outlining the massive contribution made by faith groups to social action in our community.  This was followed by a great Riding Lights production of CROSSLIGHTS: a passion play for Lent, and continues with a number of townwide events throughout the year, and also various smaller events in local churches across the town.  Let’s be ready to get involved and support the project in any way we can.

Thanks, mum!

We’ve all had mums.  They gave us life, and for most of us they nurtured us, encouraged us, clothed, fed, cared for us, picked us up and brushed away our tears, listened with joy to our childish talk, worried about us in our teenage years, supported us when we struggled as adults with career or relationships.  No wonder the Bible tells us to ‘Honour….  your mother’ (Exodus 20:12).  So thank you mum, the role you play in our lives is absolutely vital.  And thank you to all who mother our children in any way.  You are greatly appreciated!

‘As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you…’ Isaiah 66:13
